Why the harp?

This is perhaps the most frequently asked question I receive, and the answer is deeper than you’d expect.

My first introduction to the harp was a performance by a Celtic harper in my elementary school music classroom. We all got to try the instrument afterwards, and I instantly fell in love. By merely running my fingertips across the strings, I was able to feel direct access to an incredible range of different sounds. It was this initial meeting that sparked my love of music.

When I started formally studying the harp, the technique and mechanisms seemed intuitive to me, regardless of how complicated they are. I realized this fluency with the harp could translate into easily communicating this auditory language, providing an opportunity for me to connect with others through music.

Sample Recital Programs:

"The Poetic Harp" - pairing a short poem to each musical composition. Some poetry directly inspired the composer, and others match the aesthetic of the music.

"The Feminine Musique" - centered around music by women composers, presenting works on both classical and Celtic harps. This program can also incorporate costume changes and different lighting for each piece.

"Dueling Harps" - bridging the gap between two genres of music - Celtic and classical. Selections generally alternate between the two harps, often with a connected theme (grief, joy, playfulness, relaxation).

"Metamorphosis" - harp and dance explore a journey of self-discovery and growth, inspired by the effects of the
